Robert I the Bruce, King of Scots is my 20th great grandfather.

I knew I would get a fast response on this one. FTDNA website says they were able to successfully sequence Robert the Bruce Y-Chromosome (Y-700 DNA). Wow! His results came from sequencing DNA from his remains. That is so credible and better than just aligning with a papertrail alone. Or presuming you are related because there is written history about your alleged ancestors' lineage. FTDNA has gone even a step further and has collaborated with other self-proclaimed direct-line DNA descendants of Robert the Bruce to collaborate Robert's haplogroup. Well, that is what FTDNA says on their platform.

I did not join or participate in any Surname projects. I find Surname projects pretty much useless for me as my father's father was adopted and I am still searching for his true Family line. My dad is an only son. So...I could be a Bruce or whatever. The Science alone does not care about our Surname, or what Race or Clan, or tribe we self-proclaim to.

The Science does not change if you are a descendant of an Unknown or an Adoptee. None of that matters to determine your haplogroup.

I think that they can't do that yet, maybe because that would mess up the line further down, it's unussual to find one unbroken path father to son for 20 generations, but they do occur sometimes, and if one of thoose in modern time have a very different Y-DNA than the profile at the beginning, it would indicate that something is wrong, but what is the solution? Today they mention it in the about me, just like in this profile, Birger Jarl, Jarl Birger Magnusson (Folkungaätten) bu they do have one tab, also named DNA, but they do not put in the info there by some unknown reason.

If the remains of any profilers have been successfully sequenced it is who they are and their true haplogroups should be public record. Your question needs to be more precise about what you're asking.
Are you asking why you do not find your DNA matching Robert the Bruce's DNA when you are under the impression that you are descended from him?
If that's it, DNA changes over time. Each time a child is conceived, the DNA from the parents is mixed together. After 695 years, no one will be matching closely to Robert's DNA, not even his direct descendants. You can go back up to maybe 6 generations, but it gets very fuzzy from there to back farther. There's at least one mutation in the Y-chromosome every 9 to 10 generations. That's easy to work out since the change isn't as great as what happens to the autosomal DNA. You can not compare your y-chromosome to Robert since you are not within a direct paternal line to him. So, you depend upon a paper trail to determine your lineage. The problem with paper trails is that they don't always reveal the true nature of a person's parentage. Dalliances do occur now and then. Adoptions occur. What is on paper does not always represent what is in nature.

Robert the Bruce married Elizabeth De Burgh, a blood relative of ours, but Robert is also my direct blood relation, 2nd cousin, 21 times removed which I think is a more relevant relation. Ari K You are referring to Peter here, right? The profile seems to source from Riksarkivet , so I think we can trust this. The naming conventions are a bit different, which makes sense because he was moving between countries, cultures and languages.

I am following the profile, but am not sure why, as I have an inlaw connection through Nordcs and a maternal 7th cousin path via Scotland. Must have been some earlier discussion with other cousins? Anyway, I can look later and see if there may be additional primary sources for you.
