...and died in 728. One legendary sagafigure here.

Speaking of "broken links," I just found one in my tree to King Harold Eysteinsson of Hedeby, and rather than delete whole groups of supposed ancestors, I used Geni's ancestor foraging feature to find another route to Harold. That new path brought me here.

I do not alter any profiles here, I do not wish to "adjust" anyone's family tree. I'll let others do that, but at times I wonder why no mention is made of an incongruity like this one.

Near 300 years old when he died in battle. That's one old berserker.

Trying to ascribe dates to saga profiles is fruitless, sagas are not historical records and were never intended to be.

Thanks, Mr. Moes. Why aren't saga folk put into fictitious trees like the did with Attila the Hun?

No, I just checked. Attila isn't a fictitious tree any longer.

It’s like that here, they’re big on editing some and open to interpretation on others.

Odin is another example, I suppose.

And don’t whine about the relationship calculator being busted, they’re not worried about it

But you can tie yourself to Jesus Christ lol, no problem

Lucifer, too. I checked, no blood relations.

Private User what's wrong with the Relationship calculator?

Curt Quentin Harris the answer to your question https://www.geni.com/discussions/256804?msg=1596293 is multi-faceted.

On Geni there is a Harry-Potter tree and a Game-of-Thrones tree, they and others are marked as Fictitious and cannot be connected to the tree of real humans, known as the World Family Tree. These are simple examples and easy to maintain because no users intentionally try to make a connection.

Attila and Lucifer are more nuanced. There are two profiles for Lucifer on Geni, Lucifer and Private , neither of them are connected to the WFT. One is an MP for the demon(?) mentioned in the bible, the other is part of a small tree which looks like it may be some sort of fanfiction tree. In either case they're doing no harm.

There are three profiles for Attila on Geni, Attila the Hun, "Scourge of God", King of the Huns and Etzel, king of the Huns {Nibelungenlied} and Atla Budlason, {Hversu Noregr byggðist} , but would you have found the second two if i didn't link to them? One is marked as Fictitious because a separate tree was created like the Harry-Potter one for the Nibelungenlied.

The last version is a saga-profile, the ultimate reason saga profiles are not marked as Fictitious is because the sagas indisputably contain real people so then the issue becomes who in a saga is real and who is not, it's a very hazy line and what applies to one saga isn't necessarily going to match other sagas because they are interconnected but not a unified body of work. Further there is an emotional connection to the sagas ranging from a pride in the culture to an ongoing belief in the religion.

Great answer, Mr. Moes, and thank you.

I followed the link you provided to the "Testing for Fake Medieval and Ancient Lines" page, I think I've seen it before. In my tree Widukind is my 11th cousin 33x removed. No descent, he's not any kind of grandfather and I suppose this is just as factual as Odin in Valhalla (Odin is my 51st great-grandfather; I live in the U.S., not going to try to lay claim to Asgard).

But I used Geni's " you are connected to _____" tool with Xerxes and got Xerxes as my 22nd great grandfather's partner's 7th great grandmother's husband's 6th great aunt's husband's 10th great grandfather's wife's 17th great grandfather. According to the instructions, this may be somewhat sound as neither allude to direct descent, they're merely possible distant cousins to the nth degree.

OK, I'm good with that, it's all fun.

You're welcome Mr Harris.
