William "of the Bevis" Carpenter - William Carpenter1 and other New England families - Y DNA Grouping update

Copying over message from John R Carpenter

William Carpenter1, father of |William Carpenter2, both came to America in 1638. Their relationship with the William Carpenter1 who immigrated in 1635 and the son of Richard Carpenter has been debated for some time. I will reference the first as Group 3 (aka Rehoboth, MA Carpenters) and the second as Group 2 (aka Providence, RI Carpenters.)

While we have disproved the genealogical link due to will errors found, the genetic link also shows Y-DNA differences between them. Out of 111 Y-DNA markers for the descendants of Group 2 and Group 3 we have found three discriminators that we use to tell them apart. See:

https://carpentercousins.com/carpdna.htm#toc006

And while a little old, an article on the ISOGG Wiki also mentioned the differences. See:

https://isogg.org/wiki/Rehoboth_Carpenter_family#Relationship_with_...

A bit newer is the research into the "Deep Ancestry" Y-SNPs or Y Chromosomal Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms which are like hiccups in the in the genetic coding and that are passed down to descendants. See a brief at:

https://carpentercousins.com/A-little-more-on-atDNA-and-SNP-testing...

What we have learned is that Group 3 is a descendant line of Group 2 genetically. The terminal or last confirmed Y-SNP for Group 3 is Y-SNP R-BY146444 while the terminal SNP for Group 2 is R-YP6281. This based on FTDNA Big Y testing. The difference between these two terminal Y-SNPs is about 150 years plus or minus per the FTDNA mathematic calculations.
