My name is Betty Sue Hood. Senior Bate is my 22 Great grandfather. My grandfather is Floyd Andrew Bates. My Mother is Verda Erlene Bates Wood. I have been trying to trace The Bates side of my family for years. Thank you so much for your work on our family history. I couldn't find anything our family before Ruben T Bates (my 3 great grandfather) The story I heard all my life was that there were two Bates brothers who came to America from Ireland, On the ship over here they killed a man for his money and threw the body overboard. Once they reached New York they parted ways with one going to Georgia and the other staying in New York.
