Her surname would have been FitzWilliam according to naming conventions in the 11th-13th centuries. Neel is a modern version of Niall or Nigel which would not have been used in her lifetime. And she was not the daughter of Nigel anyway, she was the daughter of William so why not stick with the name appropriate for the time in which she lived????
