Disputed origins

There are no sources that support Jane’s last name at birth as Ruddick. Source Hudson (History of the town of Marlborough) records her as being Jane, wf of Thomas Goodenow. New England Marriages Prior to 1700 (pg.310) records: "Goodenow, Thomas, (1608-1666) & Jane ___? m. 1637, Sudbury/Marlborough; she m. 2nd William Buttrick, 1667.

Jane Goodenow was not the daughter of John Ruddick It appears that John Rudduck/Ruddick of early Marlborough didn't have any children. He m. 1st [[Dorothy Ruddick Dorothy Ruddick] Dorothy Goodenow]; 2nd. [[Jean Ruddick Jean Ruddick] Jane Brimsmead] and 3rd [[Rebecca Ruddick Rebecca Ruddick] Rebecca unknown]. His Will is written in very tiny handwriting but I'm unable to find mention of children although he mentions his 3rd wf. Rebecca and his male "kinfolk".

The name Ruddock seems to come from Thomas' will which refers to his brother John Ruddock. This is not a reference to his wife's brother, but to the husband of his sister Dorothy, who was married to John Ruddock.

The death date 1666 may apply to the widow of John Goodenow. See Jane (Brimsted) Goodenow (-abt.1666) and will probated in 1666 for Jane Goodenow, relict of John.
