Although you will find claims on “ye olde Internet” that the parents of Anthony-1 Goff (b. ~1656, d. ~1727) of Massachusetts and Rhode Island (husband of Sarah Polly) was a son of Anthony and Sarah (Carpenter)) Goff, there is no evidence to support those claims.

The specific origins and parents of Anthony-1 Goff remain unknown. The Goff and Polly families were Baptists, so we should not expect to find any records of them in Church of England parish registers.

thanks for the info. I added some comments to his profile and links to some sites with extensive info. I recommend joining the Goff Family Assoc if you are researching. Join at the $25 research level (1 year) to get all the newsletter archives and search. Then make sure to stop the autorenewal if you decide you don't want to continue next year. I also added a missing kid.

My suggested changes were made as a follow-up to recently re-joining the Goff-Gough Family Association. If you descend from Anthony, you will be interested to know that one of our cousins as authored an article that will be printed in one of the scholarly genealogical journals soon.

Thank you for the changes you have made. As you have indicated, Anthony was born about 1656, based on sound evidence from a court deposition, but I am not aware of any evidence to identify a specific date or place of birth.

The reference to London is likely a “hangover” from the unlikely claim that he was identical with the Anthony Goffe christened 20 December 1650. YDNA comparisons also suggest that his probable origins were elsewhere in England.
