It is *shocking* that he has been omitted for so long!
He was my generation's *definitive* Don Giovanni (I remember a certain telecast of Mozart's opera where I spent so much time drooling over how well Siepi filled out those tights that I never noticed that Donna Anna was sung by none other than the great Leontyne Price!!!) and many other roles besides. His range was *outstanding* even among a versatile group of singers, never better exemplified than in a set of YouTube sing-offs testing the limits of the bass range. Out of the entire group, only one - Siepi - had no trouble with either the high or low notes (everyone else either scraped bottom or went gnarly on top).
He is less well remembered for other roles, unfortunately, but his 1958 recording of Boito's "Mefistofele" (title role, of course, ably assisted by Mario Del Monaco as Faust and Renata Tebaldi as Margherida, with Tullio Serafin as conductor) is still considered a rare collector's item.
Although he stuck pretty closely to the Italian repertoire, he did not overlook "Boris Godunov" (a stiff challenge for any bass), essayed a couple of lesser Wagnerian role (Pognr in "Die Meistersinger" and Gurnemanz in "Parsifal"), and was known to include Wotan's Farewell from "Die Walkure" in concert, just to prove that he could have sung that role had he wished to.
