Hello,

Can you help me better understand who is being added to this project?

It seems like the intent might be to highlight the ~10% of modern Olympians who have adopted the "OLY" postnominals. However, there is no definitive list of them that I'm aware of (the IOC has repeatedly declined to share it), and Wikipedia isn't reliable since a good number of the people they've shown as using the postnominals have come out and said they don't actually use them (or even fully reject the practice).

I'd appreciate clarity. Thanks!

If the project criteria is indeed people who use the postnominals, we need to remove the following people who died before "OLY" was even invented, as the IOC only grants postnominals if the athlete personally claims them:

Dear Miss Odell,

Thank you very much for bringing this to my attention. I genuinely appreciate your insights and the clarity you provided regarding the challenges with verifying the adoption of the "OLY" postnominals.

Given the points you’ve raised and the difficulties in accessing official data on who has applied for the postnominals, I am considering restructuring the project to focus more broadly on "Olympians." This change would allow us to be more inclusive and accurately represent all those who have competed in the Olympics without the potential inaccuracies related to the "OLY" title.

Your feedback is invaluable, and I’m committed to ensuring that our project honors these athletes in the most accurate and respectful way possible. If you have any further suggestions or thoughts, I would be grateful to hear them.

Thank you once again for your guidance.

Best regards,
Mark
