David Lewis McDonald's obituary prompted me to compare census and relationship records frequently attached to his profile. An immediate concern was his connection to Hugh McDonald and Rebekah Erwin whose records never having them leaving Chester SC where they could give birth to David Lewis McDonald in GA or any other location.
I reviewed Greenville, Chester, and Fairfield County SC census records (Fairfield is mentioned in Hugh and Rebekah's land records). It was established that a David McDonald was residing in Chester and Fairfield contemporaneously with David Lewis McDonald's presence in Greenville (consistent with the obit). These include the 1800 and 1820 census records for those counties, as well as
I've attached a source document and hope to get feedback on its assertions. Ultimately, I think our David Lewis McDonald needs to be replaced as Hugh and Rebekah's son with the David McDonald in this familysearch profile: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/G787-W1X.
I recognize this is controversial as hundreds or thousands of trees assert the existing relationshiip. I just don't find sources that suitably contradict the alternative David.
