From 1640 to '45 Oliver Cromwell gave numerous pieces of English / Irish property to his "Adventurers" for management. One of these was the Hugenout, Captain William Ivory. One of his descendents, Patrick, served with English artillary at Waterloo and was rewarded with land on the North shore of Lake Ontario in 1819. His grandson James Ivory moved to Phillidelpia where he designed and manufactured dental equipment for decades. The Dental Museam considered him "the Henry Ford of Dentistry" for his over 100 patents.
See: Trinity College Dublin web site, "Down Survey", not as in County Down but as in "laying down survey chains". Do a search under Ivory and y
ou'll come up with several references to land received by Capt. William and Wm Ivory Esq.
