Private User and Private User I want to have a public discussion about the parentage of William Scott Laurie / Lowrie. This is what Private User was trying to change when we ran into a dispute.
I have confirmed records on Frances Lawrie and Margaret Lowrie - Colquhoun to support their parents as John Laurie and Agnes (Scott) Laurie. It's odd that the same record collection, Scotland Births and Baptisms 1564-1950, does not mention William as their son. That index DOES have an entry for William Scott Lowrie born Feb 2, 1832 -- it states that his parents were William Scott Lowrie and Agnes Scott. Unfortunately I've been unable to locate an image of the original record to determine whether this is a transcription error or what the original records actually say.
Private User states that DNA results for descendants of William do not match descendants of Frances and Margaret. Our About has a link to another site that claims William is a half-sibling (Agnes and someone else?) but Private User says her DNA matches don't support that theory, either. She says Agnes had a brother who was also named William Scott (and many other siblings) and there is some DNA evidence connecting the descendants of William to Agnes's siblings (which exactly??) so maybe William 1832 is Agnes's nephew?
