Elkanah Mitchelmore, Free Settler "Mary Ann" 1833 and Mary Anne Mitchelmore, Free Settler "Mary Ann" 1833 have 2 children called Samuel - alive at the same time but living in 2 different states and married to 2 different women

Samuel Mitchelmore

Samuel Thomas Moore

  • born in Tasmania
  • married 1861 in Tasmania
  • children born in Tasmania 1862 to 1865

NOTE: It appears as if some of Elkanah's children were registered as MOORE and some as MITCHELMORE.

Can anyone add any sources to assist with determining if

  • they are 2 different men - and one does not belong to this family
  • they are the same man who had 2 wives.

Tag the wife of the 2nd Samuel - Jesse Moore

The 1842 Tasmania Census lists Elkanah living in a house of 10 people
Whilst the names of the other 9 are not listed - it does contain sexes, ages and whether born in the colony and from this we can determine which children were there. The eldest son Peter was not living at home

  • 1 single aged under 2 - born in colony (Jabez born 1841)

The 1843 Tasmania Census lists Elkanah living in a house of 11 people

the extra is 1 male - aged between 21 and 45 - this would be Peter.
