Philip Volney was born on 17 July 1919, in Saint Lucia, his father, Joseph Louis Henry Volney, was 49 and his mother, Lilian Yearwood, was 33. He died in October 1983, in Christiansted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands, at the age of 64, and was buried in Castries, Saint Lucia.
