Yigal
Thomas Alva Edison, Inventor is in the Inventors project. He is profile number 194. It just doesn't show on his profile.
I also can cite profiles that lost their "About Me" content.
I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that the advice is good: to suspend all activities on Geni until a "Green Light" signal is given, and all missing/scrambled info is back to normal.
Can we get an official Geni.com view on this?
"You may notice that some data is missing right now. Please do not re-enter that data, as we are in the process of reloading it over the next couple days."

Bjørn - yes I have seen that.
I envisage all kinds of data conflicts eg profile A had an About Me that got lost at the weekend, but in the meantime profile A merged with profile B, and profile B's About Me has been edited, etc.
Hence I think following Yigal's lead, and Ofir's recommendation, the least that is edited in the meantime the better.
The best ways to stay abreast geni service issues is through the blog and help links at the bottom of every page. There are also Facebook and twitter geni accounts; again, linked through the blog most easily.
That way you will get the news from geni, and from separate servers and platforms, less likely to be affected by application database issues.
I am not restoring information that does not show currently in "about me", "projects", etc.
There is every likelihood geni will be able to resolve these errors over the next few days. Current tree building seems unaffected (based on my newsfeed).
Mike Stangel - I clicked on the link you provided above, to make sure it was one I was following - or make it one if not - and could not get to it - just got the following message:
"You are not permitted to view the requested discussion."
Could you please post the info someplace all of us can see, or give all of us access to that discussion?
I'd like to thank Fred Bergman for his info over the outage. I too lost some "about me" data and ALL of my tags that linked my documents to the appropriate profiles. I'll wait to see if they are able to restore those tags. Of the 650 documents I've either linked, uploaded, or created, I only lost two, and those were being uploaded just as the crash occurred, so that was a relief. I'm hoping the tags can be restored as those documents link to far more than 650 profiles, and are often key to resolving conflicting data on the 10,000 profiles I manage.
Along with a lot of people who looked at other sites during the crash, I was unable to find anything remotely like Geni. I joined precisely because of the goal of a shared tree with shared data, and no one else really offers that (especially not for free). Good luck to the Geni crew on the continuing work.
Yep, sorry, posted the wrong link. We'll post here when we think everything has been fully restored: http://www.geni.com/discussions/98554
Judi...Geni is still not up to normal, projects are not accurate, sources are not all restored, about me's are blank. I suspect that the locked fields Eldon and you found were due to the outage over the weekend. I suggest you give it a day or two and then try again.
As for creating duplicate profiles to add info, that is not an advised option, unless it is as a last resort.
Do you use the "please make my profile an MP" discussion to have MPs created? That lets any curator do it as they have the time.
Judi, I'm not sure what you mean - but as I'm sure me and others would like to help, can you describe the problem you're having? Is this about another user who is merging wrong people with your tree? If so, can you paste the profile link of that person here, and also links for the profiles where the wrong merge is done? Plus, what have you been deleting - profiles, or wrong merges? Give some hints?
