Dan it matter the heck to the child involved. He or she has two families in gen. In life maybe the only one they care about is the adopted one and they in reality are considered as having two sets of parents. Something that only required a simple answer like put them both down , with their own category has turned, at least for you, into a major project of an answer. but then then why should you be any diferent then most not all but most in geni. making mountains out of very small mole hills.? Adopted by their names is fine but like I said if you know their real parents, the ones who acturally made them, then they and their lines should be included in the person's tree. Hence two families legal and by bith. What's the problem here/

Judy...there is the matter of BLOODLINE v LEGAL....for those concerned about DNA proof of ancestry it matters a lot....and we must face it, an adopted child does NOT carry the DNA of the adoptive parents....that is why there is so much talk about HOW to set the situation up to serve BOTH scenarios..

The problem is in making it clear to all, as simply as possible (not as it presently has been suggested; which confuses the heck out of me)....hence my suggestion about difference in COLOR or TYPE of line connecting the people....

I reserve other comment in anticipation that someday the situation will be resolved satisfactorily for all.

That was my point . There's blood line but once you are adopted it is a legal family so their lines even thou it 's not blood line is still your family. So both should be repusented , if you know who they are! Ya a forth color for adopted would be very good and the capabilities to put two sets of parents in . It is very confusing!

I would think all this would be very troubling for someone who was adopted. On one hand they have the family , that , they grew up with as family and then suddenly if they didn't know they were adopted, and ,many don't, or ever if they do know, they have a birth family. You can't deny either one and you shouldn't if preparing a true tree. Everyone should be included.

i agree with judy.

I need the assistance of a curator to add a profile to a project, or can we still add living celebs to projects? I guess I'm having trouble adding him because I don't collaborate with the profile manager.

Tiger Woods needs to go in this project =>

http://www.geni.com/projects/Golf-Course-Architects/13506

Thanks!

I'm curious - has Tiger Woods actually designed any golf courses, or did he just lend his name to some?

Harald Tveit Alvestrand He started a company called Tiger Woods Designs http://web.tigerwoods.com/design/courses.html
It looks like he has an active part in designing.

Private -- I got him in. Did you not have an option (under the action menu of his profile) to add to a project?

Thanks Dan Cornett
No, it wasn't giving me the option to add him. I think it is because I don't collaborate with the manager. Well now I have the option......it must have been your magic touch :-)

Dan Cornett

Hi Dan,

I work on a few projects and it seems that when a profile is still living the Acttions button with the option to add to a project is not there. Can you please direct me on how to do this. Thanks.

That's one of the issue with some of the recent privacy changes (that living profiles are private and deceased profiles default to public).

The problem is that profiles need to be public to be added to a project.

So, at the present time the only way a profile of a living person can get into a project is for it to be a Master Profile (which makes it public).

Sort of a pain, in that you have to get the assistance of your friendly neighborhood curator (at the present time). Geni listens, and maybe that will change -- but you can understand the fundamental principle of protecting privacy of the profiles of living persons ('famous' people are the usual exception).

To clarify another point - for living persons, projects were set up to "invite to collaborate" (join this project). So you can't be both a collab & a profile ....

Valerie, Isabel Spencer has no reliable sources quoted. What's needed hereone to go out an find sources (not the online trees that don't say where their information is from) and put in citations.
Isabella seems to have been entered more than 70 times, but never with a citation - probably she is part of some popular GEDCOM.
If you can find the source of her information, please enter it - but that is not something you need curator assistance for.

The links didn't work for me Justin. But here's an explanation as to why so popular

The Four Presidents Genealogy in Ancestors of American Presidents
Gary Boyd Roberts is a genealogist who has specialized in running down the various works of other genealogists, comparing them, and placing the results of their works in different forums, to wit: Ancestors of American Presidents, Notable Kin, and the RD500 (Royal Descents of 500 immigrants to the American Colonies). In the publication entitled Ancestors of American Presidents, 1995, (AAP) he presents a table of how four presidents are descended from a common ancestral couple: Henry and Isabella (Lincoln) Spencer, showing that Henry Spencer died in 1477/78 in Badby, Northants.

From http://ntgen.tripod.com/bw/sp_engl.html

Also an ancestor of Anne Marbury! Too bad you can't read all the gory details.

If you want to try finding the links through a search, go to Google Groups, then to soc.genealogy.medieval, then search on "Spencer Lincoln". The first few links bring up a wealth of information, including an analysis of relationships to other Spencer families.

Tabitha Horton I came to realize that I had inadvertently skipped Tabitha Jayne's parents in my tree. However, I had built the tree a few hundred years beyond that. It seemed that the only way to get it corrected was to break the relationship and then enter the correct data. But then, I had to re-enter the data for hundreds of years of other generations. Is there a simpler way?

Dorothy Woodhull Not only did that take a lot of time, but now some of the generations give goofy relationships. For example, Dorothy Woodhull is now listed as my "6th great grandfather's wife's grandfather's wife" when in reality she is simply my 8th great grandmother. How do I fix that?

Chad Alan Woodburn,
It is pretty simple to add the missing generation.

1) Looking at her profile I presume that her father is the missing link.
2) Open the tree, and add him as her SIBLING.
3) Add his wife, her mother, to him
4) Now select the Edit option on her node in the tree.
5) Select the Relationships tab.
6) The first field on the form is Parents. Click that. In addition to her current "parents", you should also see her correct parents, select them, and press the save button.

Stand back and review your work.

Please Curators help my tree!!! A transaction was just done with a Lianne Marks on my tree where she merged my tree with the World Tree!!! WE DO NOT WANT TO BE WITH THE WORLD TREE!!! Please reverse this transaction!!!

Sandra Levien

Sandra, I'm not sure a separation will be possible. But if it is, you will need Geni help to accomplish it, not the Curators. And note that If your previously unconnected tree includes any other users (typically relatives or in-laws of yours) with claimed profiles, any one of them (or people whom they invite) will have the ability to accept another merge that will just connect you right back into the World Tree again. That, I'm afraid is how Geni is designed to work.

May I ask, what exactly was the transaction that caused your tree to be connected to the World Tree?

Lianne Marks belonged to two trees...mine and the World Tree and she merged them both accidentally.

And David, I cannot ask "Geni Help" for anything! When I "request a form" to "submit a ticket" for Geni Help it says:

"User is invalid
Email: has already been taken"

Via Geni on Facebook they told me many times they are trying to fix this error but it has now been over one year!

Let's see if Customer Service can help.

Sandra,
Are you saying that your tree been merged with the world tree for more than a day or two?

Linda,
Exactly 24 hrs ago now.

I seem to have a "stuck" tree merge that I can't complete. When I attempt to designate the parents of Alice Butz, I get a "That will split the tree" message, and there are no duplicates shown in the merge view to mark. Can someone help me make this go through? Alice Nettie Butz

Seth,
This profile is set as a private profile. We can't see it......
