Oh, and if he was constable in 1623, he was born earlier.

Robert Latham was Constable at Marshfield 1643; was at Cambridge two years in the Rev. Thomas Shepard's family; was s. probably of William, and Cary might have been his uncle. He m. Susanna, D. of John Winslow, brother of Gov. Edward, 1649, and had Mercy 1650 (at Plymouth), James, Chilton, Joseph, Elizabeth, Hannah, Sarah; he took the oath of fidelity at Marshfield 1657; settled at E. B. before 1667; his wife's mother was the famous Mary Chilton, who is said to have been the first female who set foot on the Plymouth shore 1620. Her father, James Chilton, and her mother Susanna, both d. the first winter.—Latham named his two first sons, after her grandfather, James and Clinton.—Mercy m. Isaac Harris.—Joseph was at Providence 1690 and 1703, whose wife Phebe signed a Deed 1688.—Elizabeth m. Francis Cook 1687.—Hannah m. Joseph Washburn, Jr.—Sarah m. John Howard, Jr.

It has really good info for William, including his father Galen, mother and her father including some birth dates and marriage dates. Wow, gold mine. No mother for Robert though.

Lucy Harris Latham was a descendant of William Latham, who, then a boy of fifteen, came over in the Mayflower with John Carver in 1620. The descent of Lucy Latham from William Latham is as follows:

I. WILLIAM LATHAM, came to America 1620, Plymouth, Duxbury and Bridgewater.

II. ROBERT LATHAM, of Cambridge, Mass. He removed to Marshfield, where he was constable in 1643; thence to Plymouth, where he married Susannah, daughter of John Winslow, in 1649. He afterward removed to Bridgewater. The children of Robert and Susannah (Winslow) Latham were, Mercy, b. June 2, 1650; James, Chilton, Joseph, Elizabeth, Hannah and Sarah.

The genealogy of the Winslow family is traceable back to the 14th century. John Winslow, father of Susannah Winslow (Latham), who was born April, 1597, came over from England in the Fortune in 1623, and in 1627 married Mary, daughter of James Chilton.

Mary Chilton came over in the Mayflower, and there is a tradition, probably without foundation, that she was the first person of English parentage that leapt upon Plymouth Rock. The same claim is made for John Alden, but Savage rudely demolishes both of these harmless stories by stating that neither Mary Chilton nor John Alden "is entitled to that merit."

According to the New England Historical and Geanological Register, Volume 61, page 385,

Elizabeth Newman, daughter of William, baptized Apr. 15, 1579.
Nicholas Latham married Apr. 3, 1604, Elizabeth Newman.

Children of Nicholas Latham:

Carye, bapt. Nov. 10, 1613.
Catherine, bapt. Apr. 1, 1615.
Paget, bapt. May 18, 1617.
Jane, bapt. May 21, 1619.
John, bapt. July 29, 1621.

Peter's find explains Nicholas and Elizabeth, but there is no Robert in that list. So, looks like William is the father and Robert was incorrectly linked to Nicholas and Elizabeth.

To confirm:

William Latham (1608-1651) married Elizabeth Newman (1579-1616)
daughter is:
Elizabeth Newman (1579-1616) married Nicholas Latham (1569-?), son of Lee Arthur Latham and Betty Susanne Hogue

They are not the parents of Robert Latham. I will break off the relationship.

To the best of my knowledge there are no proven children of William Latham of the Mayflower. Also to the best of my knowledge there is no proven parents to Robert Latham.

"Savage: He notes that "Mitchell" thinks him son of William of the Mayflower." According to Banks in "The English Ancestry and Homes of the Pilgrim Fathers" William came as a servant in 1620, was taxed in Plymouth in 1632, and later resided in Duxbury. He returned to England after 1641 and later emigrated to the Bahamas where he died. . Savage adds that he was a boy under Carver's charges, and for the div. of lds. in 1624, was of Duxbury between 1637-9 and Marshfield from 1643-1648, and that (quoting Bradford) "aft. so long resid. here, he went home to Eng. thence to the Bahams, and d. of starvation." We give Robert to William Latham only as a matter of study. There is no proof to date.

On 4 March 1654/55(Robert) Latham was indicted for felonious cruelty to his servant John Walker, age about fourteen, by unreasonable correction, by withholding necessary food and clothing, and by exposing Walker to extremities of the seasons, whereby he died. The trial jury found him guilty of "manslaughter by chaunce medley," and he was sentenced to be burned in the hand and, having no lands, to have all his personal property confiscated. Latham's wife, Susanna, as noted in chapter 9, was presented by the grand jury for being in great measure guilty with her husband in exercising extreme cruelty toward their late servant John Walker. In her case, however, the presentment continued without trial for three years, until the court on 1 June 1658 ordered that she would be held for trial if anyone wished to prosecute her for the offense, but no one came forth, and the court ordered the presentment erased from the records.22"

The sources that I referenced above do not say that he is the William Latham that came over on the Mayflower. This William Latham, "Mayflower" Passenger does not have any children. The father of Robert Latham in Geni is a different William Latham.
