I realize this problem has beed discussed many times over, but I'm still a newbi on here and I really wouldn't even know where to look to find the solution to this mess. After a few merges on my Pelletier tree I discovered a few doubles, so I sent a message to the managers of the ones who merged with me and to one of the curators, nothing... So now I'm on public discussion and I'm asking this same question to anyone who would have the answer, or even a simple solution to this mess. How do I remove one and keep the other, or how can I merge with the other without making things worst? Does anybody know? Signed, John Pelletier

John - why don't you post this in this thread: http://www.geni.com/discussions/80793 and get a curator or multiple curators to respond and look into it. Also, when you post on that thread, if you can, copy the URL of two of the doubles as an example.

If you are collaborating, you should be able to do this yourself, but as a newbie, it's helpful to have the curators either untangle the mess or show you how so you learn.

Usually you can go to the tree and from the drop down on one of the duplicates click "move this profile" and then go to the other duplicate profile and drop the duplicate on top. I bet that there are tutorials for this and one of the more seasoned curators can answer you. I'm a newbie curator. I'm sorry you did not receive a response previously.

Hatte, thank you for your reply. I allowed a few merges to come in and my once beautiful Pelletier tree exploded with all kinds of doubles and now I've also discovered people added who lived in the 1800's with children who lived in the 1600's and 1500's. Ya, I've got a mess alright!!!!!!!!! And if you know of a few available curaters who can fix this mess I sure would appreciate it!!!!!!!! I will NEVER merge with anyone EVER again!!!!!!!!! If I sound upset, I AM, VERY!!!!!!!!! I feel violated and the very integrity of my famous historic ancestors, compromised!!!!! This Pelletier branch seemingly was attacked by every yahoo who seemingly just threw things on there... THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN. I'll dig up my own ancestors from now on, thank you!!!!! Please, if you know of a few curators who can help, call them now, please...

Hi John, Yes, I had problems like this with my tree. And now that I'm a curator, I am cleaning up historical trees that are distantly related to me that are really messes. Where is your Pelletier family from? I"ll look for a more experienced curator to help out.

I'm adding three, experienced curators to this discussion, hoping they can figure out how to help you or who best to help you.

If you can link to some of the problems, that would be helpful. You just copy the Internet address of a problem area of the tree or of a couple of profiles.

Hatte, I now not only have more doubles, here and there and everywhere... Now I have people in there who lived in the 1800's with children who died in the 1600's and 1500's. I am a direct decendant to the famous Eloi and Guillaume and Jean Pelletier (Gobleteur) family, DIRECT, and I am so up set right now I just want to spit. I feel voilated, compromised, and very insulted!!!!!!!! It seems that every yahoo claiming ancestry to these very noble pioneers, OF MINE, have just come on my well groomed family tree and just threw anything to whatever in a very disgraceful manor!!!!!! I WILL NEVER MERGE WITH ANYONE EVER AGAIN, EVER!!!!!! I will dig up my own ancestors, my self, from now on, and I don't care if it takes me my whole life time to do. At least I will know that who I add on there, belongs there... I got most of them through many old church french ledges myself and even cross anilized them to make sure that they were the correct person. I can speak, read and write french very well and I was very careful not to make any mistakes. Now my whole Pelletier branch has been compromised..... Thank you, John Pelletier

It's too late right now and I'm too upset, so I need to chill and cool off. I'll try contacting these curators in the morning after a few cups of coffee and hopefully after a good nights sleep... Thank you for you advise. I do want the curators to see this mess that me and a few good friends, colaborators, worked so hard to make look right with much painstaking hard work... This will never happen again!!!!!!!! Sincerely, John Pelletier

John, I'm sure we can help you get this straightened up. And maybe Erica Howton can advise you on how to avoid this kind of mess in the future. I'm so sorry. I know how you feel.

Of course I know. I had a dear friend who carried the Pelletier name, proudly yet humbly as well. I believe he was a New Hampshire Pelletier, not a Maine.

I got your email John and I am trying to clean this up...

PS
You wrote me at 2:something PM and then later at 3:something PM. I am not on this 24hrs to answer you. You are in a line of about 8 other people who have sent me requests to help them in their trees. I will get to you ASAP, as I am also a descendant of French-Canadians and if your tree is messed up, then so is mine as I am connected to almost every FC on geni so far.

John, I haven't looked into your tree yet. However, if you have documents from your research to add as sources, that's always helpful for us. We usually try to work in areas with which we are familiar, but obviously, there is much we don't know! It looks like you have many great curators assisting you now. I'll peek in and see if there's anything I can do to help out, as well.

I'm more than happy to help as well. but, like Jenna said, not being familiar with this part of the tree, anything you can do to guide us will be helpful. Also, it might even be helpful to know who worked on the tree with you, so if data conflicts arise, we would know whose profiles to rely on.

Well, I had a good nights sleep, (well, kinda) and a few good cups of coffee, so I'm ready to go... Sorry if I appeared to be hostile last evening, but given the circumstances I hope you all understand. I felt violated and my family compromised, so it was only instinct for me to openly defend my family name sake, it's the one I carry. This Pelletier branch of my family was very special to me and I knew the doubles could be corrected, but it's when I seen in a few areas where someone that lived or was listed to of lived in the 1800's and had children that lived and died in the 1600 and 1500's is when I just lost it and I was just set a blaze right there where I couldn't manage my usual easy going composure... Again, forgive me my error in the way I reacted. My tree will be fixed at some point and I will now be more careful to whoever tries to pull a fast one like that on me again. I'm all the more wiser... Thank you for all of your responses and concerns... John Pelletier

John, it sounds like K Anderson is working with you and I am sure that you two will set the tree straight. Good luck and keep in touch if you have issues or questions. I also had a Pelletier friend, quite a famous professor actually, and was interested in the family history.

Thank you Hatte. Feel free to examine his and my ancestors anytime you wish. Yes, K. Anderson was "extreemly" most helpful and very professional in fixing things up as well as the other colaborators. I'm very grateful for their help as well and to your quick action in this very confusing facade, but all is much better now, whew, lol. It's a wonder why I didn't work my self up to having a stroke, lol...

Geni is a great tool but it takes time to learn to use it fully. I'm still learning and I see that I've been here over 1 1/2 years. And I have a lot of computer experience too. Experienced curators like Tammy and K Anderson and Jenna are always listening on these discussions, so you can post on the Help Curators thread or start another thread. When we need to, we bring in Geni staff to answer questions as well. And there are multimedia tutorials that can help you.

I also get frustrated when things go wrong, which is not good for one's health! We need to do some meditation I guess.

Yes, I know what you mean, lol. I'm better today. My blood pressure has gone down to normal and I still have a pulse and k Anderson and all of the other colaborators get an big fat A+ from me!!!! My family tree makes sense as of right now and I aim at keeping it that way, lol. I think I made an ass of myself in here last night and for that i am still somewhat embarrassed, but given as to how we get attatched to our new found ancestors and being a former US Marine, I guess I just went into protection mode as to defend my family from being defiled by the invaders, lol, so, I guess I just wrongly reacted because after-all, I knew it was going to be fixed somehow. I just couldn't see any light when red flashed before my eyes, and for that, I'm sorry... Good luck on your endeavors... I promise to behave myself from now on and to take what goes on in here in stride, but I will protect my ancestors because after i'm gone this tree goes to my children and that means much to me...

John, do you have any other pending merges that you want me to help you with? Send me the person's URL (the thing that says http:// in the address bar).

John,

We all relate, trust me.:)

K Anderson,

I am so impressed with your quick fixes I can't even tell you. With my sprained wrist it's taken me 10 minutes to type this msg.:))

Thank you.

K. Anderson, Thanks to you and the colaborators. things seem to be good here, finally... Thank you
