William Lee (1650-1696) Spouse Discrepancy

Good stuff :) I'm not alert enough at the moment to be Geni divorcing people but I'll get to it in the next couple of hours.

Also - there are a lot of mistakes with William and Alice's children. They have crossed the de Leigh line into the Lee/Lea. I will try to locate where the damage begins :)

Also - Hatte, I found where Elizabeth Langston belongs - also - Richard I's parentage is a mess again - as with Laeticia Corbin's. I realize this will all take awhile - I am just letting you know the problems as I come across them.

Jacqueli - that's good. I think the thing to do is work generation by generation, starting with the first American generation. Some of us can work upwards and some downwards. We need to keep each other informed as to where we're working so as to not collide :)

I understand that Hatte, but being I am a direct descendant of all the lines of Richard and Anne - I am just noting the errors as I find them - there are many for many have gotten confused with who's who - so I can use my own family tree as a reference when I see the errors, plus I have a data library with all the Lee family members (all) so it is a little bit easier for me than most to see the big picture of the corrections. I work at a different pace than most, I guess is what I am saying, but am working from Richard and Anne. Does this make sense? They are a point of reference. The easiest way to keep mix ups from happening is for each of us to make a note on who they updated or who they wish to update and with what material - and list the errors as one see's them?

I believe I fixed the wife situation on William yesterday - and his children - double check James and let me know if you see the 2 extra wives and children still. Have been working on Hancock and his son Richard - it seems that a few managers have confused Richard son of Hancock w/ son of William and even with Richard I ....

its all gone...William is not there, nor is Alice and the whole line!

I'm glad I found this site. Questions. Is William Lee, who married Alice Fenton, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Keen Lee, and children given guardianship to a Jones, which Elizabeth Lee married a Jones, and then a Taylor? How do the Williams in Elizabeth Taylors' will connect to her, as I don't find the name William listed as any of her children? Vicky Paulson

I felt Capt. William Lee was married, and belonged in this Lee line, but some from another "Society" said DNA proves he is not a Lee from this line. No other possibility works. I Elizabeth Lee Taylor, the daughter of Hancock Lee, and is it her Will that includes William Lee in it?

Vicky - can you tell us where to find the will to study? As you know - there are a lot of Lees & it can be very confusing ...

William Lee that married ALice Felton was the son of Richard Lee and Anne Constable - that is no longer in dispute.

You are getting your William Lee's mixed up, Vicky. There is no DNA project that proves he is not the son of Richard lee - there is a questionable DNA work done on John Lee son of Richard Henry Lee (son of William and ALice) because descendant s of 2 separate lines were tested against Robert E Lee line DNA - too far of cousins and too many generation descrepencies for that to be considered an absolute rule out.

As far as William Lee son of Richard and Anne who married ALice Felton, there is more than enough documentation and publication firming this up.

Vicky Paulson is a wonderful Hanks researcher - it was interesting to see the confirmation to the Hanks line.

I have a mystery Hankins in KY & keep hoping there's a connection to Hanks.:):). But I'm becoming more sure it was Hankins & UN related.

I have seen only parts of it, in Barton's Lineage of Lincoln, Elizabeth Taylor, clothing for her 2 daughters, one a Dorothy Taylor, then sums of money to Joseph Hanks, married to Ann Lee Hanks, and his cousin Thomas Hanks, who was married to her sister, Elizabeth or Betsy. Barton used it to verify her connection with the Lee family. I would like to see the whole will! I'd also like to know if this Elizabeth Taylor was Elizabeth Lee, who married Zachary Taylor, and if so, the connection to William Lee. Vicky Paulson

I know that Vicky has done great work on the Hanks line, and thank you Vicky - what concerns me that regarding the area and relationships that she is speaking, there is a recent publication (self-ublished) that is full of errors and misleading genealogy in regards to the Lee line - especailly in this William Lee area. If you need an example, I am posting the PDF - it has wrong information about Anne Constable, her parents - her husband Richard Lee I - his parents, William their son. Vicky - I have that the Elizabeth Lee that married Zachary Taylor was the daughter of Hancock Lee and Sarah Allerton. You are wanting to know her relationship to Dorothy Taylor that married William Lee (this William Lee gets confused with others) ...????

If you are referring the William Lee that descends from the Hancock Lee/Allerton line? If this is in regards to the Leigh Baroncy, you are on the right track - I have been researching this area for years trying to firm up my grandmothers line. Just wondering. If so - I would definately want to compare notes with you.

Yes, that is the same line, and I've been finding as much material as possible. Elizabeth Lee was the daughter of Hancock Lee, married Swan Jones, and he died, them married Zachary Taylor. The other William was the son of Thomas Lee, son of John Lee. He and his wife both died, while they had young children, and their guardian was George Jones. I wanted to see if there was a connection between Swan Jones, and this guardian. Since there is a William in her Will, and she had no children with Swan, I thought maybe she took care of William, the orphan. But they were both born in 1703, so that didn't happen. But it was fun researching it!

I know that Elizabeth Taylor, in the Will, is most likely Elizabeth Haregrave Taylor, but Thomas Taylor is the one I want to check out, as I know in the Zachary Taylor line, there are Thomas Taylors. Elizabeth Lee, daughter of Hancock Lee, married Zachary Taylor.

Okay - I have firmed most of this up - to the dismay of those that disaprove - but docs and facts are being emailed to you. The key to the SC Thomas and William (and Elizabeth) was the famly bible that has now disapeared - again. I have spoken numerous times with my "Booth/Adamson" cousins in UK about this matter since they are also concerned over the dormant status becoming extinct for this baroncy. I will be more than happy to share all info and research involved. This is my paternal grandmother's line and would love to have this matter firmed up - once and for all. TU

What I have found fascinating was how closely knit these families were during that time in their associations - if you know what I mean. :)

Harwood, it should be, not Hargave. That's what happens when you stay up so late, and answer emails! These two families were very closely knit! They lived next to each other for 105 years! And the first Thomas Hanks was as rich as many of the Lee families. I think that's why they would have Elizabeth Lee as Thomas Hanks wife. But if you work with the dates, and see the various records, that's incorrect. There are a good 40 records of the first Thomas Hanks, and there is no wife listed on any of them, so he has no documented wife. They seemed to move together, also, such as Kentucky, and New Orleans area. The Hanks are described as clannish, yet I think the Lee's were even more so. When I said Ann Lee was a descendant of the "Famous Lee's", boy have I gotten the crabs after me! I firmly believe that Lincoln, being people wise, would not discuss his genealogy, not because his mother was "baseborn", but because of the relationship to the Lee's. I also suspect that the Lee's that are descended from this William Lee, were now as poor as the Hanks, due to the greed of Richard Lee, and the removal inheritance they had. A Professor I work with said to me documents trump DNA, so it is vital that I have good documents to prove Ann Lee is in fact a descendant of the "Famous Lee's". And thank you for finding so many more, that I had!

HA HA HA! I just had to laugh - had them crabs after me a while too - fiesty little buggers. But their bite is as bad as they bark ... just saying! ;)

But, got to stand up for truth - and YES DOCS TRUMP DNA - a Professor I worked with said the same words of wisdom to me ... and it only makes since, docs are the written word and paper trail - legal - dna can be manipulated and easily interpreted incorrect. I have opened pandora's box quite a few times, took my hits, and eventually the docs do win out.
