6. Thomas Ludwell, of "Bell Vieu," Stafford Co., Va., b. 1730; d. 1777; was a Burgess; a Signer of the Westmoreland Protest of 1765; of the Convention of 1775-76; of the Committee to draw up a bill of rights and plans for an Independent Government; was one of the five Revisors appointed by the State Government on its organization; and Judge of the Supreme Court of Virginia. He m. Mary Aylett, dau. of Col. William and Elizabeth (Eskridge) Aylett, and had issue. (See note under Col. James Steptoe, in Steptoe lineage.)
7. Richard Henry, of "Chantilly," Westmoreland Co., Va., b. 1732; d. 1794; served as a Burgess, Justice, and member of Committee of Correspondence, 1773; of Continental Congress, 1774-9 and 1784-7; drafted the petition to the King and address to the people of Great Britain; was the author of the famous motion of June 7, 1776, "That these united colonies are and of right ought to be free and independent states," etc.; Signer of the Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776; Articles of Confederation, 1778; Legislature of Virginia, 1780-84, and 1784 elected President of U. S. Congress; of U. S. Senate, first and second Congress; selected for the Hall of Fame, Oct., 1900. He m. (first) 1757, Anne Aylett, dau. of Col. William and Elizabeth (Eskridge) Aylett; (second) Anne (Gaskins) Pinchard, wid. of Thomas Pinckard, and dau. of Col. Thomas Gaskins. (See note under Col. James Steptoe, in Steptoe lineage.)
