About Ángel S. Argüelles
After graduating from high school in Batangas, he was sent as a pensionado to the Lewis Technical Institute in Illinois to take up courses in preparation for a college degree. He was then sent to the University of Illinois, from where he obtained his BS degree (Agriculture) in 1909.
When he returned to the Philippines, he worked for the Bureau of Science (now known as the Department of Science and Technology). In 1934, he would become the first Filipino director of the Bureau of Science. He would remain its director until his death in 1952.
