Traditionally, 22 generations from Yochanan HaSandlar רבי יוחנן הסנדלר to Yehoshua Zimri, earliest recorded ancestor of Rashi or according to another tradition 33 generations between Yochanan HaSandlar and Rashi.

To bridge the gap of ca 800 years between Rabbi Yochanan haSandlar (b. ca 100 CE) to Yehoshua Zimri (b. ca before 895 CE) - a gap of ca 22 generations seems much too small.
