About 1st wife of William Chase

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Chase-115

William Chase Jr’s wife was not Elizabeth (or Mary) Holder. She was born 4 Jan 1665 and is much too young to have married William. I have detached William Chase’s 1st wife as child of Christopher Holder, Sr. and Mary Holder

Children of William Chase Jr & his 1st wife include

  • 1. William, married first, Hannah Sherman; second December 6, 1732 Priscilla Perry.
  • 2. Jacob, married Mary ___ ;
  • 3. John married 1674, Elizabeth Baker;
  • 4. Elizabeth, married May 27, 1674, Daniel Baker
  • 5. Abraham, married Elizabeth ___

Notes:

  • “Elizabeth” [SIC] married William Chase in 1644 on Cape Cod. She and William had 6 children.
  • The "Great Migration Project" & Torrey's "New England Marriages Prior to 1700" (doc attached) conclude that the names of the wives of William Chase, Jr (by 1627-1685) are not known. - EH 17 June 2013
  • Not to be confused with Elizabeth, born between 1660-1665, daughter of Christopher Holder (1631-1688) & Mary Scott (d 1665).
  • Children's birth dates may be estimated: there are scant extant records as many Yarmouth town records were lost in a fire

Anderson, in his Great Migration series, provides no name for either wife, adding:

”All of the dates for the son [of Wm Sr] William Chase [Jr] are rough estimates and largely unsupported by contemporary evidence. This Wililam's apparent eldest child, another William, was married by the early 1672, and would therefore have been born about 1645, which roughly dates the first marriage of William Chase [jr], the son of the immigrant, and also suggests a year of birth for the son of the immigrant. In his article of 1933 John Carroll Chase stated that 'it has been claimed that the four youngest children of William Chase were born of his second wife,' but no evidence other than this is offered.[NEHGR 87:50]. The evidence for the list of children for this William is itself slim, and so all dates for this William are subject to alternation."[11]“
