Abel Wilder, son of Daniel Wilder and Mary "Polly" Gould, was born 1786 in Bolton, Worcester Co., Massachusetts. He was the youngest of eleven children. He married with HANNAH PAYNE, dau. of Thomas Payne, in 1808 in Eastham, Barnstable Co., Massachusetts. She was born Apr. 12, 1790 in Bar Harbor, Hancock Co., Maine. He was a successful and well known carpenter and also a farmer. Shortly after their marriage, Abel took his new bride to a farm he had bought near Milton, Chittenden Co., Vermont. They had five children born in Vermont. During the summer of 1816 Abel took his family to a larger farm he had bought just two miles outside of the town of Malone in Franklin Co., New York. Abel built the family a home and made much of the furniture inside. Five more children were born in the farmhouse in New York; a total of ten children.

Hannah died in Malone, Franklin Co.,New York on Dec. 9, 1842; Abel died in Franklin Co., NY on Feb. 21, 1849. Both buried at Morningside Cemetery, Malone, Franklin Co., New York.

Children were: Royal (2/1804, d.y.), Thomas (1811), James (1813), Hannah (1814), Royal (1816) then Polly (1821), Phebe (1824), William (1829), Sarah (1830), and Josiah (1832).

Abel was the youngest of eleven children born to Daniel Wilder and Mary Gould. He married Hannah Payne (a daughter of Thomas Payne) in 1808 at Eastham (Barnstable County), Massachusetts. Abel moved his new bride to Chittenden County, Vermont. He was a carpenter and farmer. In the summer of 1816 Abel moved with his wife and (then) five children to farmland two miles outside of Malone (Franklin County), New York. There he built the family home and much of the furniture within its walls. Five more children would be born on that farm to Abel and Hannah. They had a total of ten children, six sons and four daughters. Note: Grandfather of Almanzo Wilder (husband of Laura Ingalls Wilder who wrote the Little House books).
