About Abiah West
Biography
Abiah Sprague, daughter of William & Deborah (Lane) Sprague, was born in Hingham, then Plymouth Colony, on 27 Jan 1688/9. She died before April 1721[1].
Abiah Sprague married William West of Kingston, "m. (pub. Dec. 24, 1709)'"[2][3] although the Mayflower Families in Progress "Soule" book just says about 1707.
Her father's will dated April 1721, proved 11 Nov 1723 names Deborah, John, William and Abiah West as his grandchildren.[1]
William married again, this time, about 1722, to Jane Tanner, who was the daughter of Francis and Mary (Babcock) Tanner. Jane m. (2) in 1751 John Hill.[1]
William West of Kingstown, husbandman, and his first wife Abiah sold land in Kingstowne to John Crowder, weaver, in Aug. 1711. They sold 33 acres in Kingstown, on [2]8 April 1713, to Robert Renalds.[1]
27 July 1741, "William West, wife and children" were to be transported from Charlestown, Rhode Island, to North Kingstown, by order of the Charlestown Town Council. And in July 1742, he and some of the family were living in West Greenwich with Benjamin Tanner, when the town council of there asked for an explanation.[1] There was also a William West on the 19 Jan 1744 rate bill for South Kingstown, Rhode Island, but it is unknown if this is the correct William.[1]
Probate records for William have not been found, but we know he was alive in July 1742 and that Jane remarried in 1751, making his death between July 1742 and 1751.[1]
From Samuel West's Memorandum Book : "My grandfathers name was William West his sons names ware William John Joseph BenjaminThomas Francis Hezekiah and Ebenezar his daugthters names ware Deborah Abiah Jane & Susanna."[1]
