Zoeth Howland, son of Henry, was born in Duxbury, and settled in Dartmouth as early as 1662. He took the oath of fidelity in Duxbury in 1657, and probably about this time with his father became a convert to Quakerism, and meetings were held at his house, for which he was fined. He was killed by the Indians at Pocasset 2Ist of 1st month, 1676. Tiverton and Little Compton were known as Pocasset, and the present stone bridge was Howland's ferry, which was later kept by Daniel, son of Zoeth. Abigail Howland, widow of Zoeth, married (second) in 1678 Richard Kirby. All of the sons of Zoeth except Samuel were active members of the Apponegansett Meeting. His children were: Nathaniel, Benjamin, Daniel, Lydia, Mary, Sarah, Henry, Abigail, Nicholas and Samuel

A previous version of this profile claimed her last name at birth (maiden name) was Newland. There is no evidence to support this claim.
On 3 July 1678, in reference to Zoeth Howland's estate, it was ordered by the court at Plymouth that Abigail shall have all his estate.[1]
Following Zoeth’s death, his widow, Abigail, left with nine children to raise on her own, she applied to the court for an order in her favor to assist in rearing them. The Plymouth Colony Record contains the following entry: "July 3rd, 1678. The court ordered that in reference unto the estate of Zoeth Howland, deceased, that his widow, Abigail Howland, shall have all his real estate and do therefore by these presents settle it upon her in consideration that she hath many male children to bring up & the estate, but small; viz: that the court doth by these settle the said entire estate of the said Zoeth Howland upon the said Abigail Howland widow of the said Zoeth Howland, both of lands, goods, and chattels, to be improved in bringing up his children & for her support therein for the reasons aforementioned."
