The Tackett Family Association studied the Tackett/Tackitt genealogy and was run by the late Jim W. Tackitt, Sr. - on one of the Association's guestbook pages, Tackett stated:

"one researcher has given an unsubstantiated claim that Abner had a wife named NANCY [or Sarah] BURDINE - and this undocumented claim has made its way into the also otherwise erroneous lineages found in the LDS, Ancestry & Family Tree Maker files.”

”Long-term research by The Tackett Family Assn. DOES support the naming of Presley’s gt.grandmother as being a Martha TACKETT, b c1853. We question, however, if Martha was actually a birth TACKETT. We have seen no primary evidence that she was actually the birth dau. of Abner H. Tackitt, 1803-1889, as claimed by some. We suggest that Martha was actually a birth WILLETT and was the younger sister of Abner H. Tackitt’s 2nd recorded, and much younger wife, Nancy J. Willett, b c1838/39; being among the several children of a Letha Willett, b c1812, TN. [see 1850 Franklin Co., AL Census].There is, by the way, also no evidence that the middle name of Abner H. Tackitt was "Hampton," or that this was his mother's maiden name.”
