Reuben was the son of Abraham Deaver (b. 11/13/1749 in Anne Arundel Co, MD; d. 1831 in OH) and Nancy Ann (Lakin) Deaver (b. 9/27/1762 in Jefferson, Frederick Co, MD; d. 1842 in Morgan Co, OH). Nancy's grave in Deavertown is famous, saying clearly that her maiden name is Lincoln. Some Deavers believe that she is Abraham Lincoln's aunt, but most agree on the identity at the top of this paragraph.

Abraham Deaver and his brother Levi left Maryland and went to Ohio where they founded Deavertown. Abraham's reason for leaving was that the Quaker community where he lived was very critical of his bearing arms during the Revolutionary War. Quakers in Philadelphia were divided, some serving, some opposing. But in outlying communities like Fredericktown, MD, it was pretty one-sided.

Abraham was the son of Basil Deaver (b. abt 1722 in MD; d. 1771) and Chew (Pierpont) Deaver (b. 1729 in Anne Arundel Co, MD). Nobody knows Basil's ancestry. Chew Pierpont has a long Norman (French, through England) patrilineal line. Her mother's father's family (Chew) came from England in the early 1600's. Her mother's mother immigrated from Wales (Wynne).
