When Abraham Hetfield was born on June 8, 1670, in New Amsterdam, New Netherlands (or possibly New Haven, Colony of Connecticut), his father, Matthias, was 40 and his mother, Maria, was 33. He married Phoebe Ogden in 1694 in Elizabethtown, Essex, Province of East Jersey. They had six children during their marriage. He died on July 17, 1706, at the age of 36, and it was believed he was buried in the Old Burying Grounds in Newark, Essex, Province of East Jersey, although no record or headstone is known to survive today. The Old Burial Ground was excavated, and the early founders of New Jersey were removed to a mass crypt in Fairmount Cemetery on the border of present day East Orange and Newark, Essex, New Jersey.
