MEMORIAL PHOTOS 3 FLOWERS 2 Although the stone clearly says his given name was "Adlie," his namesakes and other descendants in several lines and all genealogy indexes spell it "Adlai."
Adlai Osborne Ewing was the son of Nathanial Ewing and Rebbeca Osborne, and the grandson of the immigrant Joshua Ewing who settled in Cecil Co., Maryland.
He married Sophia Goodrich Wallis, October 4, 1805. They had children: Rebecca M.; John Wallis who was an advisor to Lincoln early in his career, Eliza Ann who married Stevenson (who was the brother of John Wallis's wife) and became the mother the Vice President, Fielding Nathaniel, Alexander Osborne, Isabella Caroline, and Catherine Adlai.
Direct-line ancestor of Adlai Ewing Stevenson, 23rd Vice-President of the United States.
