About Adrian Diewood McLymont, Sr.
Migrated to New York City aged 16, CIRCA 1919. He attended Wadleigh High School in New York City. Which had a programme in New york for High School students in music. Adrian had some small exposure to the Guitar. But he took a keen attraction to the violin as an instrument. He was fortunate enough to become known to the violin teacher at Wadleigh High School in New York City called, Dr Felix Weir. Who was a prominent Violinist within his own black community. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felix_Weir). Adrian finished all his courses and became so well skilled at playing the Classical Violin, that he had the infuntry to go to Carnegie Hall NEW YORK CITY to apply for a job in The Pits. Being black, his application was ignored/dismissed. At that time (1929), the great depression in America had just begun. So Adrian instead of accepting the only available jobs that blacks where allowed to have at the time, ie, dish washers, sweepers, short-order cook, etc he decided to return back to his agricultural life in Smithville Clarendon Jamaica. He returned to Jamaica on the United Fruit Company Ship. Once back in Jamaica in played for all dignitaries that arrived in Jamaica, all the dignitaries of the church and the government. Everyone clapped but no one paid. His father Frederick Augustus McLymont, tried to get him back into agricultural life. When his father Frederick died, he purchased land, under the Michael Manly Land Settlement Scheme which had arrived from Mr Manly expropriating the land that where British owned and dividing the land into small plots.
