About Agnes Busby
Agnus Dow married James Busby when he returned to Sydney in October 1832, at Segenhoe, on the Hunter River, on 1 November. They were to have six children in nine years. Agnes was present at the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840. She was always busy cooking and cleaning and entertaining visitors. In 1871 Busby visited England for an eye operation. At Penge, Surrey, on 15 July, he died of 'congestion of the lungs'. Three of his six children had predeceased him. Agnes was with her husband in England, but returned to live in northern New Zealand after his death. She was present at the opening of the meeting house at Te Tii in 1881. Agnes died at Pakaraka in 1889. She was buried in the St Paul's Churchyard at Paihia.
