Biography

Ollie Candy was born in the Cherokee Nation about 1796, the daughter of Samuel Candy, Jr. and Wuttie West, both Cherokee. She was the granddaughter of Nanyehi/Nancy Ward. She married Hair Conrad about 1812. Ollie was the mother of seven children, Elizabeth, Jefferson, Susie, John, Diana, Nancy, and Mary Hair. The family Removed to Indian Territory in 1838 in the Conrad/Colston detachment and settled in Going Snake District, Cherokee Nation. [1] Ollie appears on the 1851 Drennan Roll living next to her son Jefferson. [2] Ollie died about 1852.

...She enrolled on the 1851 Drennen Roll Going Snake #161. She and her family removed from the Cherokee Nation East to the Cherokee Nation, IT in the Foreman Detachment in 1838. (Curator Note: the Drennen Roll #161 identifies her as Ah-ley Hair)

• He was one of the mediators between U.S. Government and the Seminole in 1837.
• He was a Captain of a detachment of Emigrant Cherokees in 1838 and 1839.
• He was a signer of the Constitution of 6 September 1839 and elected a member of the Council from Tahlequah District 7 August 1843.
