"Alan, 7th Lord Cathcart, born about 1647, succeeded his father in his sixty-second year. He was appointed Commander of Supply for the county of Ayr 1678, lieutenant of the Militia in Kyle 1689. He married Elizabeth, second daughter of James, first Viscount Stair, and died 19 October 1732."
