The Nevilles are essentially the black hole of medieval English genealogy; we know that everybody is connected, but we don't really know how. Please do not confuse this Alan de Neville with Alan de Neville (Landholder), who may or may not have been his son, depending on which arguments you like better.
The Wikipedia entry for this Alan de Neville: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_de_Neville_(forester)
The Medlands entry: https://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/ENGLISHNOBILITYMEDIEVAL3L-O.htm#_T... -- The cogent part being: "ALAN de Neville of Ashby, Lincolnshire (-[1177/78]). Henry II King of England confirmed the foundation of Tupholm Abbey, Lincolnshire by ”Gilberti de Nevill et Alani de Nevill fratris sui” by undated charter[728]. Judge of the Court of Exchequer[729]. Ancestor of the LORDS NEVILLE of Essex, created by writ 1311, extinct in the male line 1358[730]. " -- so, giving neither wife nor children but making it clear that he did have issue.
