About Aldert Swartwout, surgeon
The family is from Groningen but several of Aldert's brothers move to Amsterdam, in 1652 Aldert's brother Thomas and his family emigrate to America, it's reasonable to assume that Aldert emigrated about the same time. There are government records of him working as a surgeon in New Amsterdam in the 1650s but very little other evidence. This suggests he was either going by a different surname than Swartwout in America or that he did not marry, interestingly Aldert does not seem to appear as a witness for baptisms of any of the members of the family once in America.
