Alexander married Jean, daughter of John Hamilton of Belfast, and died 26 Jan 1676 leaving issue:
- Hugh Hamilton of Ballybrenagh, his only son;
- Jean, who married William Sloane of Chelsea (the 4th son of Alexander Sloane of Killyleagh, and brother of Sir Hans Sloane, 1st Bt, MD, President Royal College of Physicians).
