About Alexander Honig, z. hinteren Stern in Worms

A correction to the Honig/Honik lineage shown in Ele Toldot.

Alexander Honig of Worms was murdered in Frankfurt in 1612. His Ele Toldot sheet =17 IX 1612 mentions names of what Ettlinger believes are two of his brothers and three of his children, based on documents he has seen, including one which specifies who is being notified that the murder has happened. Ettlinger also speculates (correctly) that Alexander's father is the parnas Loeb Honig in Worms. This is confirmed in Andernacht2 #4093 and in the Gruene Buch. The 1610 Worms house list in the Gruene Buch (Rosenthal extracted this twice, to be sure he was copying everything correctly) reveals that there was apparently some odd wording with regard to the people being notified, because while Meir z Stern is definitely one of Alexander's brothers, so is Leser (Lazarus) (#86), whom Ettlinger lists as a son. Abraham zum goldenen Ross, on the other hand, may be a brother-in-law, because his 1610 entry specifically says that he is not a native Wormser, but married-in. And Jacob zur Taube (#88 on the first extract of the list and #87 on the second) is Jacob haLevi Ginz, married to Alexander's niece, Kresel, daughter of his brother Moses. The entry for Alexander's father is unusually helpful, because it lists his living children even though they have their own entries in the list as well. This entry, for Loeb z gld Stern and his wife, Elisabeth, is #83. Alexander's own entry (#85 on the first extract of the list and #84 on the second) shows him as young married man, with his wife, Juedlin, and with four unmarried children, the youngest of whom, a newborn (born the very day the house list was taken), was named Isaac/Seckle, and the others Abraham, Kelche, and Menle/Meile (two versions of Rosenthal's transcription of the Gruene Buch differ on the name). So even though there are still ambiguities about the relationships, the three things which are certain, and need to be corrected from what shows in Ele Toldot, are: 1) that Alexander Honig/Hohnek haKadosh =17 IX 1612 is definitely the son of Parnas Loeb Honig of Worms; 2) that the Isaac Seckel Honig =27 IX 1630 who moved to Frankfurt and married the daughter of Chaim of the Engel is Alexander's brother, not his son; and 3) that Alexander's children do not include any of the three people listed as his children on his Ele Toldot sheet.

Postscript: Alexander Honig of Worms Alexander Honig, z. hinteren Stern in Worms who was murdered in Frankfurt =17 IX 1612, has an Ele Toldot sheet which includes some incorrect information. Ettlinger usually had access to the Worms 1610 house list, but this E.T. sheet may have been made before Rosenthal shared the house lists with him, and he probably just forgot to go back and add this data. Anyway, these are poster children for how helpful that house list is, and we now know exactly who Alexander was and how he is related to Isaac Seckel Honig =27 IX 1630 Isaac Seckel Honig, z. Engel, who settled in Frankfurt and married a daughter of Chaim zur Engel (=um 1597).
