Alexander Porterfied of that Ilk made his last will and testament on 27 August 1739. In the first instance he nominated his grandson, Boyd Porterfield, to be his sole executor, but subsequently changed his mind and appointed his wife Margaret Campbell. Confirmation was granted on 14 November 1743. First Marriage
Alexander Porterfield of that Ilk married Margaret Campbell on 7 February 1733, at Glasgow in Lanarkshire, Scotland. She was the sister of Sir James Campbell of Houston. The marriage was booked for proclamation on 25 January 1733, at Kilmacolm in Renfrewshire, Scotland. The record reads as follows: "Alexr Porterfield of that Ilk & Mrs Margaret Campbel sister to the late Sir James Campbel of Houstoun were booked in order to be proclaimed before marriage Janry 25th 1733 Married at Glasgow Feby 7th 1733".
