About Alice Ashkimo
Alice Ashkimo is # 1436 on the 1907 Wooster Roll where she is identified as the daughter of John Ashkimo # 1435. The 2014 Wyckoff transcript mistranscribes the names of Alice and John as Ashkima rather than Ashkomo. Ashkimo is used by other members of the Ashkimo family including # 1476 to #1488.
Alice's traditional name is recorded as "Neogishigokwe" meaning "Fourth sky woman" but that name and translation require scrutiny and comment by those with expertise in nuances of the Anishinaabemowin language and Potawatomi culture.
In 1907 when Alice Ashkimo was age 17 he was living at Sucker Creek Indian Reservation on Manitoulin Island, Ontario. In modern times the Sucker Creek name has legally been changed back to its Anishinaabe name "Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation"
