- ' Descent XIIIA.— Roger Pilkington, the eldest son of Sir Thomas, was probably born in 1443 — his father having married in 1442 — and died about 1525.
- ' Roger's wife was Alice, daughter of Sir John Savage of Clifton, co.. Chester (whose mother Katherine was sister to the Sir Thomas Stanley who was created Earl of Derby by Henry VII). On the 1st October, 1467, his father settled upon him and his issue the manors of Clipston and Kelmarsh, co. Northants, property which was seized by the Crown on his father's attainder in 1485, but was recovered in 1489.191

- ' His Inquisition post mortem cannot be discovered at the Record Office, but it is supposed he died in 1525. He had issue, six daughters, co-heiresses, amongst whom his property was ultimately divided.
- ' The six daughters were —
- 1. Jane, who married John Daniel,196 son of William Daniel of Daresbury, co. Chester.
- 2. Margaret, who married Thomas Pudsey, of Bolton in Holland [now Bolton-by-Bowland], son of William Pudsey, and they had a son Henry who married Margaret, daughter of Sir John Conyers, of Hornby Castle.
- 3. Katherine. who married, first, Thomas Arderne, and second, John Acclom, of Moreby, co. York.
- 4. Alice, who married Edward Saltmarshe, of Thorganby.
- 5. Elizabeth, the wife of William Huntley.
- 6. Mary, who married Henry Pudsey.

His Lancashire estates, including the Manors of Pilkington, Bury, and Cheetham, were forfeited and granted by the Crown to the Earl of Derby; only the settled lands which had descended from the Verdons passing to his son, 'Roger Pilkington, the last male representative of the Pilkingtons of Pilkington, who married Alice, daughter of Sir John Savage', and at his death, which occurred before 1539 (according to Vincent in 1502), left issue five daughters — Margaret, wife of Thomas Pudsey ; Katharine, wife of Thomas Arderne ; Alice, wife of Edward Saltmarsh ; Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Huntley ; Margery, wife of Henry Pudsey ; and Joan, wife of John Daniel, of Daresbury.
