Alice Bredda married Valentine Prentice at Chelmsford, Essex, England on June 29, 1626. Her maiden name is not legible in the marriage record, but appears in the baptismal record of their first child, Josiah. Her origins are unknown. Her husband Valentine was baptized at Felstead, Essex, England on February 25, 1599/1600, son of Valentine and Mary (unk/widow Luke) Prentice. [1]

They emigrated to Roxbury in New England, likely on the Lyon arriving in Massachusetts Bay on November 2, 1631, with their son John, another son having died at sea. [1] [2]

Valentine Prentice and wife Alice were admitted to the Roxbury Church. Church records indicate he was made a Freeman on August 7, 1633, and died later that year. [3]

Widow Alice Prentise married second, John Watson at Roxbury on April 3, 1634. [1] [2] [3] [4] John Watson, was born about 1590 and arrived on the ship Lyonon September 11, 1632. [5]

John Watson died on January 5, 1671/2. [3] [5]

By his will of March 4, 1671; proved February 5, 1672, John Watson left bequests to:

wife Alice, executrix
sons John, Caleb
daughters Dorcas and Mary
son/stepson John Prentice
overseers: sons John and Caleb Watson, sons-in law Timothy Dwight and Thomas Stedman [6] [5]

  1. Josias, baptized at Chelmsford on April 13, 1627; buried on May 16, 1627. [1]
  2. John baptized on May 6, 1628; removed to New London, Connecticut where he married first, Hester Nichols c 1651; married second by 1683 Esther Nichols, his first wife's cousin; married third Rebecca Nichols 'by a contract dated June 12, 1685. [1] [7] [3]
  3. Jeremiah baptized on April 9, 1630; likely the son that died at sea. [1]

  2. Joshua born in August, 1637 [8]; buried on April 30, 1649, aged 11. [4] [5]
  3. Dorcas born on September 20, 1639 [8]; married first Timothy Dwight at Medfield, Massachusetts on July 8, 1669; married second May 8, 1677 at Medfield, John Adams of Ipswich. [5]
  4. Caleb born on June 29, 1641 [8]; married Mary Hide on December 15, 1655. [4] [5]
  5. Mary born May 2, 1644 [8]; married Thomas Stedman by 1669. [5]
