According to the late James MacFarlane, Author of The Red Fox, Andrew MacFarlane of Arrochar married before, or about 18 March 1564: "Agnes, daughter of Sir Patrick Maxwell of Newark, by whom he had three sons and one daughter, John, who succeeded him, George, who received for his patrimony the Mains of Kilmaronock (the castle still stands), but left no succession, Humphrey of Brackearn, and Elizabeth, who married Malcolm MacFarlane of Gartartan." Biographical Summary

Built the castle on Eilean-a-vow on Island of Loch Lomond 1577.

Andrew was only three years old when he succeded to the chieftainship. He took the side of the Earl of Moray at the battle of Langside 13th May 1568 against Queen Mary. A highlight of his time as Chief would have been the visit of his King, James VI, to Andrew's home at his castle on Eilean-a-vow in Loch Lomond. This castle had been built in 1577 when he was thirty-three, and the Kings visit may well have been an acknowledgement of the heroic part Andrew and his men had played at the Battle of Langside. Andrew was granted original clan arms (demi-savage bearing arrows) by the Regent in gratitude of his actions at Langside against the Queens archers which turned the Battle in the infant Kings favour.
