Sir WILLIAM MURRAY; married c 1284 Ada, daughter of Malise, Seneschal of Strathearn, thus acquiring the lands of Tullibardine, Perthshire; died in or after 1296; had:

  • ANDREW MURRAY OF TULLIBARDINE; supported EDWARD BALLIOL's candidature for throne of Scotland 1332 and contributed to BALLIOL's victory over DAVID II's troops at Battle of Dupplin 1332 by fixing a stake to show a ford in the River Earn; imprisoned and executed at Perth as a traitor 7 Oct 1332, leaving:
  • Sir WILLIAM MURRAY OF TULLIBARDINE; granted charter of those lands by Malise, Earl of Strathearn, c 1333; died c 1352,

(88) Andrew Murray of Tullibardine. He sided with Edward Baliol, was taken prisoner 7th October 1332, and executed for treason. His son was:

(89) Sir William Murray of Tullibardine. In 1341 he had regained the lands of Tullibardine, and was still living in 1352.



Andrew Murray of Tullibardine, who gave in pure and perpetual alms to the Abbot and convent of Inchaffray as annuity out of Tullibardine, which had been in dispute between him and that monastery, 16 December 1329. He espoused the cause of Edward Baliol, and is said to have had a stake fixed in the river Earn as a guide to a ford preparatory to the night attack at Dupplin which, on 12 August 1332, ended in the total rout of the Scottish army. He was taken prisoner on 7 October following at Perth, and condemned and executed for treason. [The Scots Peerage I:454]
