Biography

Ann Overman was born on August 7, 1714 in Pasquotank Precinct, Albemarle County, Province of North Carolina. Her parents were Ephraim Overman and Sarah Martin (Belman).

Ann married Daniel Chancey on April 12, 1733 in Pasquotank County, Province of North Carolina. Together they had the following children:

  1. Rachel Stout (Chancey);
  2. Jacob Chancey;
  3. Samuel I Chancey;
  4. Mary Jackson (Chancey);
  5. Pleasant Smith (Chancey);
  6. Ann Chancey.

PLEASE NOTE There are TWO Ann Overmans, First cousins DO NOT MERGE: There was another Ann Overman, first cousin to this Ann, born to CHARLES Overman, brother of Ephraim. She was married to James Morgan, stated plainly in the will of her father CHARLES Overman. They are VERY DIFFERENT ladies.

Only THREE proved children no sons identified: Only daughters Rachel, Mary and Pleasant are actually proved as children of Ann and Daniel Chancey. Please do not add others unless you have previously undiscovered documentary proof. Online trees are not documents.

Daniel was the son of Edmund Chancey Jr., and Sarah Keile, and was born about 1714 in Pasquotank County, NC.

He married Ann Overman April 12, 1733 in Pasquotank/Perquimans NC.

Their children included

  1. Rachel Chancey, b. August 07, 1741 m. Samuel Stout, December 16, 1762 at Cane Creek, Orange County, NC.
  2. Mary Chancey, b. abt 1742, m. Walter J Jackson, May 12, 1762, at Cane Creek, Orange County, NC.
  3. Pleasant Chancey, b. 1745, m. Daniel Smith, February 15, 1776, at Cane Creek, Orange County, NC.

No sons have been positively identified.

Daniel and Ann moved to Bladen County, NC about 1754, where he apparently died in 1760, as Ann returned to Pasquotank, January 1761, requested a certificate from the Quakers there to relocate to Cane Creek, and married out of unity with the Quakers, September, 1761, and was dismissed from the order. Daniel had 3 brothers, Stephen, Zachariah and Jacob, 2 sisters, Rachel and Ruth.
