Fri 14 Aug 1857; Shipping Arrivals;
... the "City of Bristol," with immigrants. Passengers—Miss Long, Mr Hayes and 5 children, Mrs Alexander and child. In the steerage—56 married couples, 53 children, 31 single men, and 59 single women (snip).
Fri 21 Aug 1857; Domestic (part article):
The Immigrants lately arrived by the City of Bristol are the best selected that have ever been sent here. Of the 56 married men, 37 are ploughmen and can sow, reap, and mow, and besides many of them understand the care of horses and can milk and shear, while their wives are generally thorough farm servants ; of the single men many are equally good farm servants, and single girls (all engaged for service but 4 or 5) are a very respectable useful lot.
