"Note: I am unsure of birth year.
Grace Dutch Hodgkins was the daughter of Osmund Dutch (b. late 1500s in Dorset, England) and Grace PRATTE Dutch.
This record Grace, had a brother Robert Dutch who fought in Indian War of 1675. He was wounded by "savages" beaten, stripped, and left for dead. He lived and was found by his friends. He recovered and returned home to Ipswich. He died in 1691.
This record, Grace D Hodgkins, married William Hodgkins II (b. 1622 England), came to Ipswich in 1841 with his father.
Grace and William Hodgkins II, had a son, Samuel Hodgkins born Nov 2, 1658. He later had a daughter Mercy Hodgkins Coombs b. 1700, who married Anthony Coombs II.
This records mother, Grace PRATTE Dutch was daughter of Bennett Pratte and Ann Primrose. She was a midwife and was accused of witchcraft in 1653. She was found innocent. (This was 40 years before Salem Witch Trials hysteria.)
- *************
Grace Dutch Hodgkins was born in England, possibly in Dorset. Her parents came to America in 1639. According to records, she was baptised 19 May 1633, one record said Powerstock, Dorset, England and another said Gloucester, Essex, Mass. I feel it was probably the England location.
As for the 'witch connections', Graces sister Esther Dutch Elwell was accused of witchcraft but it came at the end of the 'scare' and she was never prosecuted. Years before, their mother Grace Pratt Dutch was also accused but was found innocent. She later brought a slander case against the accusers.
