Information about Ann Gay/Florida Annie Gay
After researching the Gay and Castleberry families, I discovered there was much confusion and discrepancies in the family line of Ann Gay/Florida Annie Gay.
Many researchers have Ann Gay and Florida Annie Gay as the same person. My research leads me to believe that Ann Gay and Florida Annie Gay are not the same person.
Proof as Follows
- 1. Thomas Gay Sr. was married to Letitia Swearingen in 1837 Laurens Co. Georgia.This marriage produced one daughter, Annie Gay March 1837. Ann Gay married Milton Castleberry, June 12, 1856. Letitia Swearingen- Gay 2nd marriage in 1843 to Sion Morris.
- 2. Petition For Guardianship of Ann Castleberry Formerly Ann Gay (Estate Records Book D, Pg. 24) William Gay Appointed Guardian of Ann Castleberry Formerly Ann Gay. Minor Child Of Thomas Gay (DESCEASED) 1857 Jackson County, Florida
- 3.Ann daughter of Thomas A. Gay Jr was taken in by Thomas Gay Sr..
- 4. Thomas Gay Jr. died about 1838. July 21, 1856 Letitia Swearingen Gay-Morris signed Document stating She Was The Widow of Thomas Gay, (late of Jackson Co.). Letitia also signs over any to Ann C. Gay to a Land Warrant now applied for #71,610, Witnessed by A.L. Riviere and John L. Swearingen.
- 5. July 6, 1836 Thomas Gay Enlisted in Capt. Nicholas A. Long Co. of 7th Florida Volunteers. Thomas Gay left daughter, Ann Gay with, grandfather, William Gay.
- 6. Bride Index: Milton Gay to Annie Gay, With Another Reference to Ann (E) Gay. June 12, 18556 Jackson Co. Florida.

- 2. I bequeath unto my wife Winney Gay a certain trac of land…I bequeath to my son, James all my plantation tools. (No list of Letitia Swearingen as spouse) Winney thus is the wife of Thomas Gay Sr. aka William.
- 3. I give and bequeath unto my children, (William Gay, John Gay, James Gay, and daughters Sarah Wimberly, Winney Kenneda, Nancy Gay and Florida Gay. (No Ann Gay listed as daughter)
