About Archibald Owings

He served as a Private in the South Carolina Militia in the Revolutionary War after the fall of Charleston, SC in 1780. He was paid 13 pounds, two shillings and ten farthings sterling for his service. Archibald Owings (RW) married (?) (?) circa 1783 in Kershaw Co., SC. In the Naim of God Amen. I Archabald Owings being weke in boday but in sound mind and memory blessed be god for his mercys do make and constitute this my last will and testament.

1st I will and bequeath my sould to god that gave it hopeing that on the morning of the resirection to rise singing anthems and hums to him that sits on the throne and the lamb for ever and ever.

2ndly it is my will and desire that my boday be decently entered into its mother earth and all my just debts paid.

3rdly I will and bequath my negro boy Ruben to my son william owings.

4ly it is my will and desire that my Negro woman Ruth should belong to my son John owings.

5thly it is my will and desire that my Negro woman Mary should belong to my son Richard Owings.

6thly it is my will and desire that William Owings do pau out of the price of Ruben unto James Owings the some of two hundred Dollars, John Owings Do pay to the said James Owings out of the price of Ruth one hundred Dollars & Richard Owings do pay to the said James Owing out of the price of Mary one hundred Dollars at the experation of one yare after my Death.

7thly it is My will and desire that my Son John owings Should have my plantation that I now Live on with all My household furneteur and that the said John Owings Do pay to those of My Children which is Not Naimed a Bove one hundred Dollars & also that My son John Should have a Black Cow & Calf and a speckled hefter two yars oald and upwards all the Residue of my property that is Not mentioned a Bove to Be soald and Divided Betwen My four Daughters viz Nancy Shrock, Sarah Goodwin, Elizabeth Hood and Hemimah Gardner with an exception of my foristor Mare that may to Belong to my Son John owings also one yare oald Colt to Belong to my son Richard owing and the thirty three Dollars which My Son William owings owes to me to Be aplyed to the payment of My Debts & should that not be suficent to pay my Debts as Much as will pay all my to Be taken out of My crop now groeing and acknoledg no other Will or Wills But this to Be My Last will and Testament signed Sealed * acknoledge in presents of us and I Do her By apoint My true and trusted freind William owing as My Lasful Exetor to this My Last will and testamen and that my son william owing attend to My Crop now a groing and that he the said William Do Be paid out of the Crop for his trouble and services. Given under my hand and Seal this 13th of June in the years of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred & twenty six.
