Archibald Sixkiller was a Cherokee man

Biography

Archibald Sixkiller was born in the Cherokee Nation (East) about 1822, the son of Sixkiller and Annie Fields, both Cherokee. He also used "Fields" as a surname. The family was Removed to Indian Territory and he married Charlotte Adair there about 1849. Arch appears on the 1851 Drennan Roll living in the Flint District near his mother and other relatives. [1] Charlotte emigrated before 1835 so she and their first child, daughter Margaret, appear separately on the "Old Settler" roll. [2] They were the parents of Margaret (died young), Samuel, Jennie, Walter Scott, and John Martin. [3] Arch died in a smallpox epidemic in 1863. [4]

Research Notes

  • An additional child, Lula, is mentioned as a sibling of Sam, Walter, and Jinnie Sixkiller by John A. Gonzales in his Cherokee by Blood testimony, misc. test p. 3303 Sept 29th 1908, application 12435. John was a first cousin to Sam, Walter, Jinnie, John Martin, and Lula Sixkiller. Lula is not listed as an heir of Charlotte or Margaret on the 1896 Old Settler Payroll.
